Altec Lansing on Thursday announced the release of its new ultra-Expressionist computer speaker system from two multi-driver desktop speakers and a subwoofer, and the MIX boombox, which sports a built-in iPod dock. The Expressionist Ultra 200W RMS speakers have shared power of each amplifier between the two 3-inch drivers, 1-inch Neodymium dome tweeter and a 6.5-inch subwoofer.
The speakers can be adjusted the treble and bass through a controller, and there are both aux and RCA connectors to adapt to other sources. A headphone jack is also included.
The MIX Boombox iPods and iPhones can place thanks to its dock connector, Apple and other brands as well as other audio player through its two 3.5-mm auxiliary input jacks. There’s also an FM tuner, and users can individually tailor the sound, thanks to a seven-band equalizer.
Like classic boomboxes, users can make their music away from the wall outlet thanks to their eight D batteries for 30 hours operation and incorporate heavy duty treatment. Sound is played through a 5.25-inch side-firing subwoofer, two 3-inch midranges and two 1-inch polypropylene cone tweeter.
The mixture is shielded to prevent the known GSM “buzz” of it, an iPhone and work without recourse to airplane mode as a result. An included remote control itself can be stored in the boombox, and has a built-in carabiner clip so that it is not lost.

Altec Lansing is one of the biggest names in American audio history, it pained me to see once mighty brand sinking to the most cheap Chinese multimedia speakers. But if it ever goes into production, this new concept from designer Nuno Teixeira could Altec back to the top.
The Omni is a three-way design with rising firing driver, with a view to a 360-degree sound radiation by the kind of openness and large stage, you can not normally reach with a conventional forward radiating designs. The result is a stunning design that looks like the threat of international arms scare when U.S. satellite imagery detected North Korea’s Kim Jong-Il, the establishment of a couple in one of his palaces.
