Sony’s first 3D receiver

Friday 19 February 2010 @ 3:34 pm

3D is a real pain in the ass. First, all are from this new 3D fantasy equipment will cost you a lot. But it’s not just the price. Your receiver can not pass through 3-D signals, because they are not equipped with HDMI 1.4. Here are some more bad news. Only one of 4 new receivers from Sony supports 3D.

The 7.1-channel, 110W STR-DN1010 is Sony’s “affordable” 3D receiver. It costs $ 500, when it becomes available in June this year. It is the first 3D support to HDMI 1.4 pass-through technology to more than 4 HDMI connections.

Early adopters will want to check it out, but I’ll wait until they have a better solution.

Many netbook users agree that a major weakness in the small and portable computer systems is that optical drives are missing. The lack of an optical drive is most obvious for many business users, who are still often data on CD or DVD. Sony has announced a new slim external USB CD burner, called DRX-S70U-W, designed specifically for notebook and netbook users.

The burner is a small, sleek device that seemingly run entirely by the USB port of your computer. The drive can burn 8X DVD + -R, DVD + -R dual-layer media, DVD + RW and CD-R RW media, all at fast speeds.

Sony is also bundling the drive with Nero DVD CD mastering software suite. The thin end of October at the burner is available online and sold in specialty shops. Be the DRX-S70U-W available in white or black colors.

Sony Europe announces E-Series Video Walkman

If you love music, but can not afford that OLED Walkman, this new device can be for you. The E-Series Walkman Video MP3 player have just announced for Europe. They come in either black or red, with a five-band equalizer, support for rights-managed WMA and WMV files, and an FM radio tuner with one-touch recording.

It will be available overseas at the end of July. Nothing about the price or if we see this could be a stateside. It has an interesting look, even if they do not sport OLED. Not sure I like the Mickey Mouse buttons when ear.

Danielle Steel Reader from Sony – Limited Edition

Saturday 9 May 2009 @ 12:00 pm

Danielle Steel Reader from Sony - Limited Edition

It turns out yesterday was the big day for the eBook reader. Well maybe not big in terms of importance, but in view of the large and newly unveiled Kindle DX is now larger in size and price. Of course, we can not forget that in addition to their Amazon Kindle and we also have some other company with the eBook reader on the market, one of which is Sony.

It turns out that in an announcement, which is entirely in black, Sony is presenting its latest Limited Edition Reader. This time it’s a Danielle Steel Edition – a special red-colored Reader, with a red leather with Danielle Steel names embossed on the bottom right corner as well as three books and a personal letter from Danielle Steel.

Sounds like a good deal for a Danielle Steel fan, but if I understand it, is a favorite author I can not help but question whether a limited edition reader is really needed. Basically, this seems just like Sony is trying to compete on the ebook space, but it seems as if they are not really much in terms of an A-game.

Sony’s latest Blu-ray recorders export video to PSP and Walkman

Tuesday 31 March 2009 @ 4:19 pm

Sony's latest Blu-ray recorders export video to PSP and Walkman

Sony has two Blu-ray disc recorders, which, apart from recording your favorite TV programs, you can watch the videos on portable devices like Sony PSP or Walkman. The BDZ-500GB Sony A950 and A750-320 GB BDZ, you can also create additional content from Japan’s AcTVila video download service. This can be exported to compatible portable devices.

Video streaming and downloads are not really anything new, but the ability to export that content to portable devices is a function that has withdrawn from almost every set-top box so far.

While it is technically possible, eons, it probably will not be through the tangled web of copyright issues that seem to cripple all efforts to encourage people to pay for their media, but damn well please.

The two new Blu-ray disc recorder can also export content to compatible phone handsets. However, this is the “analog broadcast or other video that no copy protection signal.”

It sounds like a nifty feature, but we can not help but be reminded that the Sony plans apparently forgotten that the PS3 ripping low-res versions of Blu-ray movies on PSP. That was a much Grander concept, and we are very excited to see. Since the appearance of the technology more than a year ago, it’s been almost deadly quiet on this front.
