USB forum buys up ExpressCard, PC Card assets

Friday 22 January 2010 @ 12:36 pm

The USB Implementers Forum, this afternoon said it would buy the assets of the PCMCIA group. The agreement gives the USB-IF control over the testing, development and management of all removable notebook card formats, the PCMCIA control, including ExpressCard, and the legacy CardBus and PC Card format. Officials hope the move is not expected to certify to simplify equipment and that they necessarily interfere with the existing process.

The handover should take place before the end of March and is in the PCMCIA their solution, if the transfer is complete result.

While a connection between seemingly conflicting standards, ExpressCard is designed to complement for many USB notebooks already have an internal USB port to link the card slot for the rest of the system. It is not clear what happen with those implementations that rely on secure PCI Express to Express card, however.

NVIDIA 40nm GPUs are coming

It looks like finally ATI Radeon HD 4770 is his match. As expected, it is that NVIDIA will roll-out cards with a capacity of 40nm manufacturing processes. Perhaps you have heard about their plans 40nm GPUs for a long time ago, but it was a very good reason, she held back. Now it is outdated and NVIDIA is almost certainly planning some next Gen graphics cards for September.

NVIDIA’s long-standing partner TSMC has been facing a problem of low yields on 40nm process. Of course, a stumbling block for NVIDIA as well. Now TSMC reports yield improvements, so there is little doubt that end users will not benefit from new GeForce GT210 (GT218) and GeForce G220 (GT216) prior to mid-autumn.

The advantages of the 40nm manufacturing are mostly hidden in GPU’s dimensions – they are smaller. In perspective, it is powerful graphics units for notebooks and desktops.

Panasonic unveils Class 10 SDHC cards

Panasonic unveils Class 10 SDHC cardsIt’s been a while since we’ve seen all the major developments in the SDHC cards. We are stuck with Class 6 cards up to 32 GB for a while now. It was not a problem for everyone, they were not terribly slow, unless you use the card in a digital camera and try to select multiple pictures per second. This is not a problem now with the new Panasonic SDHC cards.

Panasonic, the latest gold line cards are Class 10 speed, up to 32 GB. Class 10 means they have a high transmission speed of 22 MB per second. This is much faster than Class 4, has 4 MB per second and Class 5, which at 6 MB per second. The cards are designed for digital SLR cameras and HD cameras, which will surely use the faster speed.

The cards can also be useful for all, a Netbook. Almost all Netbook is capable of using SDHC cards. In the case of the Aspire One, it is even in the situation with two, one of which is inserted into the disk. Faster cards for these machines are always welcome. It would cover all issues with playback of media files from the card, or in running a whole operating system because some of them are known to do. It would have been nice to see the Gold Line, or even up to 64 GB for the sake of Netbook, but 32 GB is still a respectable amount of storage.

The line is expected to sell in June, the prices will be announced later.
