Garmin’s first GPS-centric phone is still vapor ware but the company say it has a second phone ready.

In partnership with Asus, Garmin plans to launch the nuvifone M20, a phone with Windows Mobile operating system. The M20 is about a 2.7-inch touchscreen, 3.5G tri-band GSM support, Wi-Fi connectivity, desktop – such as Internet browser, push e-mail, Bluetooth and Garmin GPS navigation capability.

Getting the M20 on the market is a major challenge for Garmin, the fight to the mobile phone business. The company had announced its plans to introduce a mobile phone in the third quarter of 2008. But the phone was only this year. Finally, Garmin said last week it would partner with Asus and rebrand its entire range of phones than the Garmin nuvifone Asus series.

At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Garmin plans to show the M20 and the first nuvifone, the G60.

The G60 is a quad-band GSM phone with 3G and Wi-Fi support, so Garmin. The phone has a 3.55-inch touchscreen display and has three primary icons on their screen, ‘Call’, ‘Search’ and ‘map’. The symbols emphazize GPS navigation on mobile phones, offers a turn -by-turn directions and re-route users miss when a street or exit.

Garmin is also a place applications such as real-time traffic information, White Pages, Weather, Flight Status, local events, movie times and on his two mobile phones. The nuvifone also productline Ciao application that is similar to the recently Google Latitude. The application allows users of your friends’ position on the map and navigate to it. The G60 also comes with a three-megapixel camera, which automatically geotagged images.

The G60 and M20 phones are expected in the first half of the year. Garmin and Asus are not known yet, the prices of the phones or the telecom carriers that it is available.
